Thus, walking with his eyes directed upward, he stumbled on one

of these groups, and his attention was attracted by hearing them

speak of designs and projects for the morrow; it appeared to him

that he, who had been such a labourer in the field, had a right

to give his opinion. Persuaded from all he had witnessed during

the day, that, in order to secure the success of an enterprise,

it was only necessary to gain the co-operation of the populace,

"Gentlemen," cried he, in a tone of exordium, "allow me to offer

my humble opinion. My humble opinion is this; it is not only in

the matter of bread that iniquity is practised: and since we have

discovered to-day, that we have only to make ourselves heard, to

obtain justice, we must go on, until we obtain redress for all

their other knavish tricks-until we compel them to act like

Christians.
